Is IPL hair removal safe for your underarms?

Intense pulsed light or IPL is a type of skin treatment, it has a lot of uses and benefits from hair removal to whitening and skin rejuvenation. However, we will focus this time on hair removal, specifically for the underarms.

How does IPL hair removal work?

A handheld flashgun will pass over the target area, delivering a spectrum of pulsed light that penetrates the skin until it strikes a hair root in your underarms

Is it painful?

Although the underarms are a more sensitive part of your body, it still depends on the pain threshold of the person. The experience is commonly described as a warm feeling or “pinging” sensation, however, it is definitely less painful than laser treatment, and as you continue your sessions, the pain will lessen. The less hair there is, the less painful it is.

Is it safe?

IPL technology has been around for quite some time and there are no studies to indicate that it is unsafe. IPL does not contain any UV or UVB rays which are associated with an increased risk of cancer, however, it is important to note that not all hair colors and skin types yield the same results. It works well on dark blonde, brown, and black hair, as well as most skin tones except for very dark tones.
